We are Independent Production of Malayala Shabtham or "Voice of Malayalee" is a weekly One Hour program that covers news, information, and events of interest to North American Malayalee community. One of the most prominent ethnic communities in South Asia, the Malayalees are from Kerala, India. It is a Community where the literacy is one-hundred percent, and its people brought light to various parts of the world, in terms of spirituality, education, culture, and high tech, to name a few. The Canadian Malayalees comprise a great number of medical professionals, doctors, nurses, medical specialists, computer professionals, engineers lawyers, and the like. There is great need and scope for a venue, a Forum where they can express their talents, to exchange their ideas, to explore their potential and to be seen.

The Malayalee Community in Canada is at a historic crossroads. Time has come that we should act to have a solid base for our community. Time is the essence of opportunity. It will ask us to be in the right place at the right time. We have to take courageous decisions. The infrastructure decisions that we make today will shape not only our future and growth, but also will provide various opportunities for the members of our community.

A Community of our size with its financial and spiritual strength can accomplish unbelievably greater things, if we could hear our voice heard. To achieve this goal, we have to keep everybody informed about various aspects of our Community.

Mission

Our mission is to keep the community informed and entertain them. Being the only one of its kind in Canadian Malayalee history, Our mission is to promote, plan, develop and provide a comprehensive entertainment program responsive to the needs of the Malayalee Community in Ontario maintaining the style and quality of life. The projects we envisage are intended to have immense gains for the Ontarians in particular and great benefits to the community in general. The people of Ontario will get a good exposure to the culture and heritage of a leading community in South Asia, and thereby strengthening the multicultural fabric of Canadian society. It will show a vibrant and colorful community in action, and will bring out the vitality and tolerance of the Province of Ontario. It will promote the social integration of Malayalees in Canada. We can help organize social activities designed to promote the quality of life in Canada. We are dedicated to achieving great satisfaction by providing the best programs for the community.

Such a communication link will foster partnerships between and among various other communities, since there will be greater dialogue between communities. It will, in particular, raise the level of awareness in respect of women and youth. Since we have to carry the torch of our culture to succeeding generations, we have to present the information to their needs and liking. We will cater to the interests of the youth, specifically in the areas of mentoring, education, training and leadership development. By working as partners in community action they, together, can strengthen the needs of the society at large.

A planned community can function effectively to cope with varied requirements of the multi-cultural society we have the pleasure to belong. A strong multicultural community demands an investment of our time, talents, energy, spirit, heart, possessions and our family. Keeping aloof, or in small group, we cannot fulfil our obligation to ourselves, to the society in general, and our community in particular.

The Impact

When we succeed in our venture in a short time, our efforts will have long-term impact, promoting a healthier lifestyle and environment. We can give the mainstream community, Yoga, Meditation, Classical dance, Folk Dance, and various high calibre life-style promoting clips, which will be able to utilize the viewers’ creative energy and skills in a more positive and lasting way. It will benefit the children, youth, women, disabled persons, and the elderly. For example, the children can prepare themselves for cultural programs such as music, dance, drama. Also we can train them for speeches, quizzes, and prepare for programs like Reach for the Top. We can teach the children Malayalam and Hindi; the new immigrants English and French, etc. Seminars can be conducted in health guidance, drug awareness, youth violence, and inter-faith discussions. It will take into consideration all religions, denominations and to have greater understanding. It will help the women to understand their role; how women can be seen and heard; how it will help the family. It will help the adults with heritage programs, sharing the culture and expose them to the mainstream. We will be able to give the historical significance of our musical heritage and to foster an understanding and appreciation of the South Asian culture and heritage within the mainstream community.
